Shiloh is the site of the first major battle in the Civil War's Western theater where 24,000 soldiers were killed, wounded, or went missing. After its victory, Union forces moved south to take control of the Confederate railway system in Corinth, Mississippi, which contains an additional unit of the park. A ten-mile, self-guided auto tour leads visitors to fourteen roadside exhibits. Interpretive programs are available during the summer.
